On Friday, February 6 at 5:30 PM in St. Mark’s Square, on the main stage of the Venice Carnival, Marco Toso Borella and Vocal Skyline present “PLAYING OLYMPUS: Singing and playing in the gods’ drawing room”, a show dedicated to the official theme “OLYMPUS – At the origins of play,” in which the English word “TO PLAY” is explored through its various nuances of meaning, including “to play an instrument,” “to sing,” and “to act.”
Through a musical journey that, as always in Marco Toso Borella’s shows, surprises and engages a diverse audience, the story of the competition that once animated Venice between the Castellani and Nicolotti will be told—the same city divided by a canal (the Grand Canal) that found itself competing in contests of strength, endurance, and skill. That same Canal remains the sole vital artery today in the Historical Regatta.
The music will become the soundtrack for images retracing the symbolic locations of these competitions, seeking to highlight the spirit of healthy, inclusive competition despite the conflicts that too often divide the sporting world into extreme opposing factions today.
