After the appointment on Monday, September 8th at the Scuola Grande di San Teodoro with the “Concert/open rehearsal,” there is great anticipation for the highlight of the festival with the dates of Saturday, September 13th at the Scuola Grande di San Rocco (9 PM); Sunday, September 14th at the Scuola Grande dei Carmini, at 4 PM, and at the Scuola Grande di San Giovanni Evangelista on Sunday, September 14th at 9 PM (concert on the occasion of the Feast of the Cross, a solemn celebration of the Scuola).
Following this, an appointment at the Scuola Dalmata di San Giorgio e Trifone on Friday, September 19th at 6 PM.
Admission to the concerts is free with a suggested donation while seats last, but priority will be given to those who have made a reservation.
Awaiting the audience will be the original “immersive” concert format created by Marco Toso Borella, which will see the choristers surround the audience and overwhelm them with their voices, along with scenic effects and choreography. All set within the beauty of Venice’s history, with a repertoire spanning various musical genres, from Coldplay to Queen to Eurythmics, through Battiato and Nirvana, from Purcell, Orff, and ancient pieces from the Venetian school to the musical The Greatest Showman. Concert-shows rich in dialogue between different forms of art: pop music and the history of the Serenissima, choreography and active audience involvement literally immersed within the choir, historical outreach and poetry, art history, and the magic of breathtaking light effects. Each stage includes a brief introductory talk by an accredited tour guide (thanks to the collaboration of the Venice Tourist Guides Association and Best Venice Guides).
The next dates on the calendar will include the Scuola Grande di Santa Maria di Valverde (Misericordia), the Church of San Giacomo (Archconfraternity of San Cristoforo della Misericordia), and the “Hidden Jewels of Venice,” managed by the Venice Services Foundation, born from the unification of IPAB IRE – Institutions of Shelter and Education of Venice and the Ancient School of the Battuti of Mestre: Scala Contarini del Bovolo, Oratorio dei Crociferi, Ospedaletto Complex, and the Church of the Penitenti (DATES TO BE DEFINED).
The events are organized in collaboration with the City of Venice and Vela SpA.
All concerts will have FREE ADMISSION (with mandatory reservation) specifically to allow all citizens to enjoy the beauty of their city’s artistic heritage.
“Just as in Venice’s past the ancient Scuole Grandi, together with the many trade and national schools, represented an intermediary body between the State and Citizens—a true welfare system before the term existed—the intention of this initiative is to strengthen, or even reconstitute, this relationship between the living city and its ancient palaces. These are jewels of inestimable artistic and cultural wealth, visited by millions of tourists from all over the world, yet some are unknown even to Venetians themselves. La Voce Grande di Venezia is therefore a unique opportunity to create a dialogue between the Venetians of today (choristers and audience) and the Venice of yesterday: a dialogue between ancient institutions and a contemporary social and artistic fabric, through a common thread of 360-degree art, capable of involving the spectator in a unique immersive and emotional experience that will be unforgettable for everyone.”
