Marco Toso Borella gives a lecture at the Università Ca’ Foscari di Venezia as guest of Prof. Antonio Trampus. The title is “BABEL – The Era of Cultural Provocation.”
Through an excursus spanning centuries of history, the Maestro presents various forms of cultural/artistic “provocation.” From Socrates, Praxiteles, Akhenaten, who paid dearly for their challenges to the cultural system of their time, to the “unwitting provocateurs” Veronese and Caravaggio who suffered the censorship of the Inquisition, passing through Gustav Klimt and his break with the critics, up to the artistic provocateurs during the absolutist regimes of twentieth-century Europe.
