For the very first time, on April 25th, the Big Vocal Orchestra entered the Hall of the Great Council at the Doge’s Palace in Venice for the San Marco Award ceremony.
In the largest hall in Venice, in the place where our ancestors elected the Doge, we sang the Italian National Anthem to celebrate the anniversary of the Liberation from Nazi-Fascism, then we performed Spirto di Dio, the madrigal that during the time of the Serenissima Republic was sung aboard the Bucintoro to celebrate Venice’s marriage to the sea on the day of the Festa della Sensa (and which for this reason could have been considered the true anthem of Venice). Finally, we presented our own original version of the Hymn of San Marco, which we transformed into a solemn and melancholic anthem of our city’s glorious past.
Marco Toso Borella also received recognition as part of the San Marco Award, among the city and metropolitan excellences, which I wish to share with all those who belong with enthusiasm and dedication to the choral universe I direct: Big Vocal Orchestra and Vocal Skyline. All Venetian citizens who love music and experience singing in a choir with great passion and commitment. Almost like a vocation for the city.
It was, as always and more than ever, an honor to be able to make our voices resound within one of the most symbolic historic places in Venice’s history.
